Coach Richard Carroll is a legend in the Venice baseball community! He was an avid baseball enthusiast coaching & ultimately becoming the President of Venice Little League, where he volunteered for over 40 years. He loved the game. In the 1980’s he was introduced to Challenger Baseball, an affiliate of the National Little League program, designed to give handicapped children the opportunity to experience the game of baseball, the game Rich Carroll loved.  Rich and his wife, Nancy started a local program for “those who can’t play in the usual way”.  What started with a half dozen players now has over 250 players and growing –  An all-volunteer organization, Venice Challenger Baseball has fundraised over $1 million to build a dedicated “Field of Dreams” here in Venice. The Turf Field with lights is almost complete, September is scheduled for the First Pitch, we are so very close to financially making this field a reality! 

Please join us Saturday, August 14th @ Pop’s Sunset Grill in Nokomis to celebrate Rich Carroll’s life and support his dream of bringing the joy of the game of baseball to those children with special needs.  This is a seated, 3-course brunch w/service beginning at 9:15am. A raffle will be held. Cash Bar.
